  1. Live online chess coaching for children

    Beyond the Board

Patient, one-to-one chess lessons that teach children to think before they move.

  2. Knowing the moves is only the beginning.

Most children learn how each piece moves in a few days. Seeing the whole board, every threat and every chance, is the part that needs a good teacher.

  3. Your child's coach

    Coach Aniket Singh

He teaches every lesson himself, so the coach who meets your child in the first class is the one who sees them through.

  4. The strongest move begins before you move.

    Coach Aniket Singh

Children learn one habit above all: stop, look at the whole board, ask what the other side wants, think a few moves ahead, and only then decide.

  5. One square at a time.

A written course, step by step, from a child's very first rules to playing real games well.

  6. Every Pawn is a potential Queen. Do not forget this.

James Mason, The Principles of Chess, 1894

In chess, a pawn that crosses the whole board becomes a queen. We have never seen a reason children should be different.

  7. From knowing chess to playing it.

The person behind the board

More than two thousand hours at the board with children.

Aniket Singh has spent them live and online, almost always one-to-one, with children meeting the pieces for the first time and with children who already play well. Each lesson builds on the last one, and on the games your child has played since.

Families join him from the UK, the US, Ireland, Singapore, Australia, Ghana and India.

How classes work

What happens after you say hello.

Four steps, and nothing to install: lessons happen in the browser, on a tablet or a computer.

  1. A free demo class

Forty minutes with Aniket on video. Your child meets him at the board, and you see exactly how a lesson works. No payment details, nothing to sign.

  2. Live lessons at a regular time

Forty-five minutes on a shared board that Aniket controls while your child watches, answers and plays: positions to understand, puzzles to solve, small challenges to win. The time is set in your own time zone.

A live lesson: the shared board the coach controls, the lesson's tools and the video call (demo data)
The live classroom: one board, the coach's tools, video and voice.
  3. Practice between lessons

Puzzles Aniket sets for the week, and an analysis board where a friendly move coach explains each move in plain words, the good ones and the mistakes.

The analysis board: the move coach explains the last move in plain words, with the engine's view beside it (demo data)
Practice: the analysis board and its friendly move coach.
  4. Their own games, reviewed

Link your child's chess.com account and every game they play comes back reviewed move by move, so lessons start from the games they really play.

A reviewed chess.com game: every move graded, the move coach explaining a strong move, the game's graph beside it (demo data)
A reviewed game: every move graded and explained.

Questions

What parents usually ask first.

My child has never played. Is that all right?

Completely. The Beginner course starts with the board itself: its squares, the pieces and how each one moves.

My child already plays a lot online. Will lessons still help?

Usually a great deal. Playing often builds speed; lessons build judgment. Aniket works from your child's own games and on the habits that win them: noticing what changed, spotting threats, calculating before moving.

When are lessons, and in which time zone?

At a regular weekly time agreed with you, shown in your own time zone. Aniket teaches from India and plans lessons around families' days in many countries.

What do we need at home?

A tablet or a computer with a camera and a microphone, and a steady internet connection. Lessons run in the browser, so there is nothing to install. A bigger screen is easier than a phone.

How much do lessons cost?

Fees are per lesson and agreed with Aniket directly. Nothing is paid on this website, and the demo class is free.

Will I know how my child is doing?

Yes. Aniket keeps a record of every lesson and can send you a written report of your child's lessons and attendance.

Is my child’s information safe?

Children can’t create accounts: Aniket makes each child’s login himself. Video and sound in lessons are never recorded. The Privacy Policy explains everything we keep, and why.
